Reviews & Endorsements of LL.M. Roadmap - From Law Journals,  Websites, Amazon,  Other Publications

Supreme Court Justice of Indiana (former) Frank Sullivan, Jr., complimented the "comprehensive" nature of LL.M. Roadmap, and said that LL.M. Roadmap "is an indispensable resource . . . providing information that LL.M. students require". Justice Sullivan noted that "scrupulous attention to the advice contained in LL.M. Roadmap will greatly help international students".  A full copy of the book review can be found here.

--Meredith McQuaid, Associate Vice President and Dean, Global Programs and Strategy Alliance, University of Minnesota; President, Chair of Board of Directors, NAFSA: Association of International Educators (2011-13)
“[LL.M. Roadmap is] the important manual for all potential international LL.M. students in the United States. LL.M. Roadmap fills a gaping hole.”

—Makau Mutua (Dean & SUNY Distinguished Professor of Law; University at Buffalo Law School, The State University of New York; Associate Director, Harvard Human Rights Program (former))

“Professor Edwards has demystified the process of choosing and getting admitted to a great American LL.M. program.  This is how I would conduct my own LL.M. search.”

“Global South students earning U.S. LL.M. degrees . . . gain access to global connective networks that help in their human rights and humanitarian work. … LL.M. Roadmap [will] help international students learn which U.S. LL.M. programs are more interested in receiving tuition dollars than they are in helping LL.M. students and graduates achieve their goals, which can include returning to make a positive difference in their home countries."

Lasky (Founder, Bridges Across Borders Southeast Asia (BABSEA); Adjunct Professor of Law, Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai, Thailand; Adjunct Professor of Law, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia; Visiting Senior Lecturer, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)

Valuable LL.M guide"
"LL.M. Roadmap written by George E. Edwards ISBN 978-1-4548-0239-6, offers a comprehensive and practical guide for international students seeking admission to U.S. Law School Programs. This guide navigates the prospective student from point A to Z. Point A being researching various U.S. LL.M. programs and then Z, life after obtaining the LL.M. degree.
"It is well known that enrolling in an LLM program is a time consuming and extremely expensive endeavor. In selecting programs to apply to, prospective applicants often look for LLM rankings in an effort to determine which programs are most desirable to them on the basis of the programs' appeal to a broad survey audience. Unfortunately, there are no such official rankings for LLM programs and, conceptually, there cannot be." LLM guide.net
"This book however works around a superficial look at LL.M. rankings and seeks to cater to the individual needs and interests. It answers questions about the value of the LL.M. degree, the types, a unique 218 point criteria in ranking LL.M. programs, admissions, scholarships and employment. Especially important is that this guide navigates the student visa issues and offers explanations and advice.
"This book is a must have to all international lawyers seeking a U.S. Law degree. Doing a search on Amazon or other retail books sellers reveals that there is little out there advising foreign lawyers on things such as admission advice and types of LL.M. programs. However, this book is not only the rare find, it promises to deliver on its title as a 'Roadmap.'"

--MrLawStudent (Amazon.com - 25 March 2012)

“[M]y first law degree in the U.S. was a J.D., which I followed with an LL.M… . LL.M. Roadmap provides comprehensive, valuable insights, whether you are choosing an LL.M. or a J.D. program.”

--Luz Estella Nagle, Judge (Former), Medellín, Colombia)

"I regret that LL.M. Roadmap was not available when I was Director of Admissions of Harvard’s LL.M. program. I would have recommended it to every recruit and admitted student who passed through Harvard's doors. I recommend LL.M. Roadmap now to anyone, anywhere in the world, thinking about undertaking the LL.M.  It’s a fabulously helpful text!"

--Athena Mutua (Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, LL.M. Program of Harvard Law School (former))

“Practicing [legal professionals] have long recognized the potential value to their legal and business careers of intensive exposure to the U.S. legal system [and] immersion in an English-language legal learning and living environment[. LL.M. Roadmap] should be required reading in their due diligence on how to plan for and make the most of the LL.M. opportunity."

—Laurence W. Bates  (General Counsel, GE Japan; Director, Government Affairs and Policy, GE Asia Pacific)
“[LL.M. Roadmap] will prove an invaluable resource for students thinking of studying law in the U.S.”

—Bruce Carolan (Head, Department of Law, Dublin Institute of Technology Dublin, Ireland )
“Bravo.  The book is brilliant and long-overdue.”

—Mark Wojcik (Professor of Law,  The John Marshall Law School, Chicago; University of Lucerne Faculty of Law, Lucerne, Switzerland; Permanent Guest Professor of Comparative Law and Anglo-American Law)
“LL.M. Roadmap informs U.S. law school deans, professors, and administrators what international LL.M. students should reasonably expect from their U.S. law school experiences. LL.M. Roadmap will empower students with information needed to maximize their U.S. law school experience, and empower U.S. law schools with tools to provide high-quality student services.”

—María Pabón López (Dean & Judge Adrian G. Duplantier Distinguished Professor of Law, Loyola University New Orleans School of Law)

"Top Notch LLM Guide."
I had the opportunity to get my hands on a copy of this guide by WKLB and it is fantastic. Much like their other products this one does not disappoint. First and foremost, the small blurbs (reasons to earn an LL.M. degree, documents you should be familiar with, and reciprocity agreements) in each chapter are informative and great reference points. Also, the chapter highlights and reviews are an added bonus for quick reference when you return to the book at a later time.
"Another great aspect about this book is the fact that it really is a one-stop-shop guide. It covers everything from personal statements to CVs to language proficiency requirements to financial guidance (including scholarship, discounts etc..)
"Lastly, the guide goes further than just giving information in regards to legal programs. It is also a great place to learn about societal life in the United States. This guide really helps students from beginning to end, and then once you are at the end it helps a little more."

--Dave G., (Amazon.com - 2 July  2012)

"Exactly the thorough and thoughtful book that foreign-trained lawyers need"
"Highly recommended. George Edwards has written an essential roadmap to this age of transnational law practice and international legal cooperation. With thousands of lawyers jetting across national borders to study or practice in other countries, and with an American LLM now one of the world's most valued credentials, foreign lawyers will thank Edwards for helping them sort strong LLM programs from weak ones, apply effectively to the right programs, and take the often-confusing first steps towards success in the academic world and professional life of the U.S.
"I know this terrain from experience. My own company, BarWrite, has prepared many hundreds of foreign-trained lawyers for the New York bar exam over more than 20 years, and I know what I'm talking about when I say that prospective and current LLM students are looking for guidance, and that George Edwards's LLM Roadmap is long overdue. I also know how challenging it is to write any guidebook without either skipping key steps or insulting the reader's intelligence. George Edwards has managed to spell out the details without talking down to his readers. As the author of the bar-exam study guide Scoring High on Bar Exam Essays and of the forthcoming Perform Your Best on the Bar Exam Performance Test (MPT), I can testify that writing textbooks is hard work. George Edwards does a great job."

--Mary Campbell Gallagher, J.D., Ph.D. "President, BarWrite and BarWrite Press" (Amazon.com - October 11, 2011).

"What if there was a book that would guide international students through all aspects of their Master of Laws studies in the United States? George Edwards; law professor, Harvard J.D., and former Wall Street lawyer; wondered just that. Based on interactions with international students, Edwards realized that LL.M. students tended to be uninformed of many aspects of a U.S. LL.M. degree and that there was a lack of resources in this area. He decided to fill this lacuna by writing his own book. The result is entitled LL.M. Roadmap – An International Student’s Guide to U.S. Law School Programs (published by Wolters Kluwer Law & Business/Aspen in 2011) [624 pages].
"LL.M. Roadmap covers the most important questions that international LL.M. applicants commonly have, including choosing the best LL.M. program, gaining admission to U.S. law schools, funding LL.M. studies, and securing a job after the LL.M. In addition, the book discusses cultural and legal aspects of living and studying in the U.S. Moreover, although LL.M. Roadmap focuses mainly on the LL.M., it also extends some of its coverage to the increasingly popular, but lesser known, S.J.D. (J.S.D., Doctor of Juridical Science) degree. Finally, LL.M. students considering transferring to a J.D. program will appreciate the chapter devoted to this topic.
"LL.M. Roadmap is an exceptionally thorough and almost all-encompassing “encyclopedia” of the Master of Laws degree in the U.S. The book covers not only the substantive core areas of the LL.M. application and admissions process, but also discusses practical issues such as visa requirements, enrollment in courses, exam-taking, graduation, and post-LL.M. career paths. LL.M. Roadmap is also well-researched, clearly written and easy to understand, and filled with useful advice that extends to all stages before, during, and after a candidate’s studies towards an LL.M. degree. Anybody who is interested in a U.S. LL.M. is well advised to turn to LL.M. Roadmap for guidance. While there are other books on the subject (see, for example, here and here for two resources in German), LL.M. Roadmap is by far the most complete and practical of its kind."

"Helpful for all students"
"I became interested in LL.M. programs after a friend of mine was accepted into one. [LL.M. Roadmap] is geared for international students and provides great information on what the benefits in earning an LL.M. in the U.S. are. It provides an overview of what to expect at U.S. law schools, the criteria for selecting a program, ways to finance including an appendix with sources for scholarships, grants, and fellowships, and information on admissions and student visas.
"As a non-international student, I found the information about the benefits of having an LL.M. and the criteria for selecting the best program for you to be very helpful. [LL.M. Roadmap] provides a good overview of the benefits of having an LL.M. that is applicable to all students. I also liked how the book was laid out. Each chapter starts with a text box that provides highlights of the chapter. The chapters are then layed out in a very easy to follow outline structure. My favorite feature of the book is the exterior "tabbing". Because this book is a reference tool, the tabbing allows you to easily find the specific section that you are interested in. Overall, the book is a great tool for anyone interested in obtaining an LL.M. in the U.S."

--Dana D (Amazon.com - March 25, 2012)

"Fabulous Resource!"
"If you are a student thinking about doing a LL.M. program, [LL.M. Roadmap is] for you. It is laid out simple and elegant, easy to read, and works much more like an encyclopedia than a regular book. This is not a book to sit down in one sitting and just read through, it's more of a helpful tool. Such as if you have specific questions about a LL.M. program, you can go to the proper section and learn in a quick manner all you need to know. The writing is great because it is easy to follow and not once was I ever "lost." I would recommend this book to anyone! So, if you are thinking about doing a LL.M. program, this is your #1 resource on information!"
